From November 21 to 30, 2017, the ESE: O team was at the School of Public Health of the University of the Witwatersrand (Wits) in Johannesburg, South Africa. Soledad Falabella and Maria Teresa Leonvendagar participated in the sixth Supervisors workshop and the seventh Joint Advanced Seminar (JAS2) organized by the Consortium of Advanced Research Training in Africa (CARTA).
In the supervisors workshop, Soledad and María Teresa gave presentations and facilitated group work. Soledad explained ESE:O’s role in this important training initiative, highlighting the importance of reading and writing skills in successful research.
At the JAS2 during November the CARTA doctoral fellows followed an intensive training program. Soledad gave classes on critical discussion and summarizing academic articles. and conducted writing coaching sessions jointly with Maria Teresa. They also organized and facilitated an academic writing workshop with both the fellows and supervisors. Sebastian Brett gave online support from London.
