From June 9th to 15th, 2019, the 11th Encounter of the Hemispheric Institute for Performance and Politics, an event sponsored by the University of New York, was held in Mexico City. This year the encounter was called “The World Inside Out: Humor, Noise, and Performance”. It set out to theorize and exploit satire, humor, laughter, music, noise, and hubbub in their broadest senses to unveil, visibilize, denounce, unpack, rupture and dismantle the structures assembled by power in the face of a global context of growing social inequality, violence, and institutional fragility. Thanks to the support of the Fondart Project “Participation in the 11th Encounter of the Hemispheric Institute of Performance and Politics”, Soledad Falabella, Constanza Muñoz and Ana Laura López participated in the event with a paper/workshop titled “Genders, sexualities and other jokes: body practices for mocking power.”
